You may have noticed – the big Expo is in town, assembling all the hospitality and gaming wizardry from the gamut of industry suppliers.

Coming at the culmination of the colder months, as venues look eastward for the summer season, the Australasian Gaming Expo certainly represents the biggest news in the game today, starting tomorrow (15 August) at Darling Harbour.

Trade media is primarily intended to be a happy synergy between industry doers and suppliers, telling each about the other and one another, in an optimistic ‘rising tide lifts all boats’ philosophy.

It is primarily for this reason PubTIC began its ‘virtual’ editions of the AGE, in 2020. While pubs and clubs were closed around the country, many operators and manufacturers look to the annual Expo for inspiration and new business, and business had to forge ahead in spite of the confounded virus.

This represents our third virtual AGE, and some of the best exhibitors have taken the time to provide us with what they have on show this year.

For those with an eye on the real estate market, we’re also heading toward the buying period and a somewhat modest first half of the

year (when compared to the record-breaking events of 2022) hints at bigger things to come.

Few hoteliers are hit harder on the valuation front than those who have become the custodians of heritage-listed pubs. The forward march of progress sees many of these treasured structures being preserved amid increasing development and infrastructure. This edition Peter Calligeros shares his views on the dilemma faced by heritage operators in combatting a tax and planning system that favours the developer while applying the same windfall tax burden on the stoic hotel – republished courtesy of Hotel News.
